FMP books will soon be available at the Multnomah County Library!

We’re so excited to announce that the Multnomah County Library system is the first library to carry Friendly Monster Press Books. Belladonna, Absolutely Always, and The Newel Post: Book One are all currently on order and available to put on hold by any library card holder. What a dream. Also, my good friend-poet, Adam Oyster-Sands’ debut collection is also newly available to put on hold (Steel Toe Press, 2024).

I think I speak for all the authors when I say that it is an honor to have one’s book on the shelf of a place that’s as important as the library. It might be a small thing, but today it feels big.

Hello,
Thanks for coming to my website. The best way to support this press is by buying our books, preferably from Bookshop.org or having your local bookstore order it for you.

  • Thanks!

    P. S. please sign up for the email list at the bottom of the page. I will email you cool, or at least semi-cool stuff.

AUTUMN BETTINGER

Autumn Bettinger is a short-form fiction writer and full-time mother of two living in Portland, Oregon. She is a 2024 Fishtrap fellow, has won the Tadpole Press 100-Word Writing Contest, the Not Quite Write Flash Fiction Prize, and the Silver Scribes Prize.

BELLADONNA

a collection flash fiction, microfiction and art

Belladonna invites you into thirty-seven new worlds, each one resembling our own but somewhat twisted, often lovely, and always close. Within this curated collection, Bettinger artfully blurs the line between magical realism and narrative fiction.

Her characters act out buried impulses, budding desires, and tenderest shoots of hope. Her settings are laced with poetic prose grounded in earthen and apocalyptic metaphors, but with a structure and pace not found in traditional fiction. Each story is accompanied by illustrations from the author that compliment the deep emotion and shrewd efficiency of her storytelling.

From one of the most well-practiced voices in short format fiction, Autumn Bettinger's debut book returns to themes of haunting loss, broken romantic relationships, life saving friendships, motherhood, and what connections will remain at the end of the world.

My heart belongs to the stories Autumn included in the Myrtles & Milkweeds section…For me these are the stories that most represent the Autumn I know: complex, funny, insightful, and unhinged in the most endearing way.
